Boyd Co. LLC / Corporate Headquarters Offices

Louisville, Kentucky

The contents of the existing build-out of this former four-story office building were stripped down to just stairs, elevator shafts and exposed floor structural system remaining so every aspect of the building’s interior was replaced and re-planned.

The effort to program the new spaces in the building was a clean-slate opportunity to develop the ideal layout for consolidating the back office operations of heavy con-struction equipment dealer Whayne Supply Co. with its parent Boyd Co. under a single roof.  Working with the rest of the design team, a new office environment was space planned to create facilities that both companies could share with a strong emphasis on fostering a more collaborative work process.

Examples of this include the circular-shaped collaboration café  spaces placed in all four floor’s geographic centers as a hub for employees to benefit from incidental contact on the way to get coffee or when using any of the 2-3 adjoining conference rooms.

The circular motif is repeated on the first floor lobby/re-ception area space. That floor also features a  large flexible training room with adjacent cafeteria which serves large meetings as well as for having a place for the entire office staff to dine.

The existing structural framing and bar joists were left exposed in all the open office areas for an appropriate industrial feel.
