Norton Commons – Louisville, Kentucky

The build-out of the top floor of Charles Osborn, Jr’s new office building in Norton Commons was designed for the consolidation of two of the Osborn family’s business entities that had previously been occupying space in separate locations. With “Tradi-tional Town” ’s offices placed to the left of the center of the floor plan and Osborn’s to the right, an arch-ing shared corridor playfully joining the two build-ing wings together, becoming both the circulation spine and main architectural visual element of the design.

The resultant rounded spaces left behind create the interest and movement Charles, Jr. requested when he asked us to “Give me some smash!” The elevator lobby/reception area opens directly onto the rounded outdoor terrace overlooking the com-mons, showcasing the Norton Commons develop-ment which the Osborns have had a major role in developing.
